CLEMSON — Here is the latest on Clemson running back Phil Mafah.
It appears Mafah will play in the ACC Championship Game against SMU today. The Clemson running back was out on the field and warming up with his teammates. He was also running around and is wearing his cleats.
Ahead of 8 p.m. kickoff, the senior is dressed out and competing fully in warmups at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Yesterday, head coach Dabo Swinney shared the key to getting him going in the ACC matchup.
“He’s just got to be healthy,” Swinney said.” He’s been battling a little injury and hopefully, we can get him through that.”
This was the first time that Swinney had acknowledged that Mafah was not fully healthy. Until this point, no one on Clemson’s staff had shared any news of injury about the running back.
However, a change in Mafah has been noticeable recently. In the first nine games of the season, the senior averaged 110.8 rushing yards per game. In the last three games, he has only picked up a total of 97 rushing yards.
Additionally, Mafah averaged seven yards per carry in the first nine games. Since Nov. 16, he has only averaged three yards per carry.
