Bad News for Florida State

Following one season in Tallahassee, an SEC transfer and former blue-chip prospect is leaving the Florida State football program.

Seminoles defensive end Marvin Jones Jr. has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal.

A five-star and top-25 national prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, Jones signed with Georgia in December 2021 and spent his first two seasons with the Bulldogs before transferring to FSU this past offseason.

This season, the 6-foot-5, 255-pound junior recorded 25 tackles (six for loss), four sacks, a forced fumble and three quarterback hurries for a Seminoles team that finished their dreadful 2024 campaign with a 2-10 record.

Prior to his brief time in Tallahassee, Jones appeared in 25 games with one start across the 2022-23 seasons at Georgia, tallying 16 total tackles (5.5 for loss) and two sacks. He played 12 games and started the SEC Championship Game in 2023 after playing 13 games as a true freshman during Georgia’s 2022 national championship season.

He is the son of legendary Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones Sr., who spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the New York Jets after being selected with the fourth overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft. Jones Sr., a College Football/FSU Hall of Famer, was a three-time All-American who won the Butkus Award and Lombardi Award while finishing fourth in Heisman Trophy voting in 1992.
