Kanell: Clemson Matchup is ‘The Worst Nightmare’ for Texas

The expansion of the College Football Playoff opens the door for chaos in the opening round, and that’s the role that Clemson can play in the inaugural year.

With a trip to Austin to take on Texas, the Tigers are +11, the largest point spread of the opening games. Danny Kanell appeared on Outkick’s Hot Mic and didn’t hesitate to confirm he’s taking Clemson to win on the road.

“This to me is like your worst nightmare because nobody thinks Clemson can do it, this is kind of where Dabo thrives,” Kanell said. “I can picture Dabo at the podium or with whoever sideline reporter is there…saying every cliché in world.”

Kanell noted that quarterback Cade Klubnik is “quietly” third in the country in touchdown passes. He described pressure on the Longhorns while the Tigers play with house money.

Clemson doesn’t mind playing the underdog and that’s what Dabo Swinney’s team will do when the Tigers take on Texas Dec. 21.
