In his first season at South Florence, Amare Adams felt the heartbreak that comes along with losing in a state title game.
The 5-star defensive lineman, and Clemson signee, helped lead his South Florence team to the 4A state title game last season. Despite taking a 32-20 lead into the fourth quarter, a Cutter Woods touchdown pass with 15 seconds left in the contest dealt the Bruins a crushing defeat.
On Friday night, Adams and South Florence had a shot at redemption, as the Bruins once again faced off with Westside in the 4A state title game. Just like last year, the Bruins defense had issues slowing down Woods and the Westside passing attack, as the Gamecocks’ signee threw for more than 400 yards with six touchdown passes.
However, in one of the game’s biggest moments, with it tied at 35-35 midway through the fourth quarter, Adams made his presence felt.
With Westside facing a 3rd and 10 and trying to retake the lead, Adams pushed the left tackle straight back into Woods for the sack, forcing one of the Rams’ only punts of the night. It was the only sack recorded by either team. After the punt, South Florence marched 75 yards in 10 plays to take its first lead of the game. The Bruins would ultimately win 42-41 and win their second state title in the past three seasons.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound prospect finished his senior season second on the team with 76 tackles. His five sacks led the team and his 13 tackles for loss were tied for tops on the team. The blue-chip prospect will enroll early and take part in spring practice.
