A Clemson transfer defensive back is headed back to his home state — and staying in the ACC.
Former Tiger safety Sherrod Covil has committed to Virginia Tech.
The junior will have one year of eligibility left.
Covil, a native of Chesapeake, Va., entered the NCAA transfer portal when it opened earlier this month.
During his three-year Clemson career (2022-24), Covil was credited with 36 tackles, one tackle for loss and one pass defended.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pounder appeared in 11 games this season with one start, totaling 12 tackles and one pass defended.
Covil was a four-star prospect in the 2022 class and was considered a top-250 national prospect.
