Swinney Gives Wednesday Evening Update on Mafah

Following Wednesday’s practice, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney held his final media availability of the week ahead of Saturday’s College Football Playoff game at Texas.

Swinney was asked how Clemson running back Phil Mafah has been progressing with his shoulder injury throughout practices leading up to Saturday’s game.

“Doing great,” Swinney said on Wednesday evening. “He’s doing fine. We don’t hit him in practice, so he looks great. He’s had a good week. He’s ready to roll.”

Mafah will have to undergo postseason shoulder surgery, but the senior is set to play Saturday. Clemson will have Keith Adams, Jr., Jarvis Green and David Eziomume backing Mafah up in the playoff game, with reserve running back Jay Haynes out for the season after having knee surgery on Monday.

Mafah, whose production has declined down the stretch due to injury, has rushed for 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns on 214 carries through 13 games.

The Tigers (10-3) are the No. 12 seed in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff and are set to face the fifth-seeded Longhorns (11-2) in the CFP First Round Game at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium this Saturday (4 p.m. ET, TNT).
