When North Carolina hired Bill Belichick, it was a move that sent shockwaves throughout the college football world, particularly in the ACC.
Belichick is one of the most successful NFL coaches, having won six Super Bowls as a head coach and two more as an assistant. Now he brings that track record to the ACC and Dabo Swinney believes he will make an immediate impact.
“It’s incredible,” Swinney said recently. “I think it’s a great compliment to our league for sure. It’s hard to get better than coach Belichick. He’s an unbelievable, proven coach and winner. I think it’s really cool.”
While Clemson’s schedule for next season has yet to be released, the Tigers do already know they will be making a trip to Chapel Hill and Swinney is very much looking forward to facing off with the legendary head coach.
“I think we play them next year,” he said. “That wasn’t on my radar coming into the season that the guy that’s got more Super Bowl wins than anybody would be coming into our league. I think it’s really cool. Great opportunity for those kids that are in that program.”
Clemson has won seven straight over the Tar Heels, with North Carolina’s last win in the series coming in 2010.
“I don’t have any doubt that he’d do an awesome job.”
