Clemson Won’t Have to Face This Top ACC QB in 2025

Clemson won’t have to face this top quarterback from the ACC in 2025.

On Friday, Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.

McCord opted to no longer seek an NCAA eligibility waiver for another season in college.

Clemson is scheduled to play a home game vs. Syracuse next season at a date to be announced.

Syracuse went 10-3 (5-3 ACC) in 2024 and earned its 10th win of the season when it beat Washington State, 52-35, in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 27. Of course, Syracuse’s upset victory over Miami in the final week of the regular season put Clemson into the ACC Championship Game.

McCord threw for 453 yards and five touchdowns in the victory over Washington State, and with the performance, he passed Deshaun Watson’s 4,593 yards passing in 2016 which was the ACC single-season passing record.

McCord led the country in 2024 with 4,779 passing yards. He completed 66 percent of his passes and threw for 34 touchdowns with 12 interceptions in his lone season at Syracuse.

McCord spent three seasons at Ohio State before transferring to Syracuse in the spring of 2024. In his career with the Buckeyes, he appeared in 24 games with 13 starts (including 12 in 2023) and passed for 3,776 yards with 27 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
