After previously declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft, former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck instead decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday and play one more season of college football.
And Beck will be playing his final season of eligibility in the ACC.
Beck announced Friday that he has committed to Miami.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound redshirt senior will replace Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward at quarterback for the Hurricanes.
Beck had surgery in late December after suffering a UCL injury on the last play of the first half in Georgia’s victory over Texas in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 7. He did not play in Georgia’s loss to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff, and per ESPN, “he’s unlikely to be healthy enough for spring practice at Miami because of the recovery from the injury.”
Coming into the 2024 season, Beck was widely considered a top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class and a potential first-round pick. However, he had his share of struggles in 2024 and threw 12 interceptions while completing 64.7 percent of his passes for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns.
In his four-year career with the Bulldogs (2021-24), Beck completed 68 percent of his passes for 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. While the NFL Draft was an option for Beck, he is electing to bet on himself in a fifth season of college.
Beck went 23-of-33 passing for 278 yards and threw for two touchdowns during Georgia’s 34-3 win over Clemson in the two teams’ Aug. 31 season opener.
Miami finished 10-3 this season after losing three of its final four games. The Hurricanes blew a 10-point third-quarter lead in their 42-41 loss to Iowa State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
Miami and Clemson are not scheduled to play during the 2025 regular season.
