Notre Dame AD Would ‘Love’ to Play Clemson Each Season

Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua addressed the media this weekend in advance of the College Football Playoff National Championship between Notre Dame and Ohio State on Monday night.

One of the things Bevacqua discussed is the quality of Notre Dame’s scheduling with the ACC.

According to Matt Baker of The Athletic, Bevacqua said he would “love” to have Clemson as an annual opponent for Notre Dame.

As an FBS independent, Notre Dame has a scheduling arrangement with the ACC where the Irish play five ACC games each season.

“When we play a team like Clemson, I think that has become such a great rivalry in such a short amount of time,” Bevacqua said, per Baker. “I would tell you that’s the type of game I’d love to play every year.”

Clemson and Notre Dame have met eight times on the football field, with the Tigers leading the all-time series, 5-3.

Six of those meetings have taken place since 2015, and Clemson has won four of those contests, including the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Cotton Bowl in 2018 and the 2020 ACC Championship Game.

In the most recent matchup, Clemson beat Notre Dame, 31-23, at Death Valley on Nov. 4, 2023.

The Tigers and Irish didn’t play during the 2024 season and also aren’t scheduled to play next season. This season, Notre Dame’s ACC schedule featured Louisville, Stanford, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Virginia.
