TCI Recruiting Roundup: Clemson Coaches Continue to Pound Pavement

The contact period continues to rage on, meaning members of the Clemson coaching staff have been burning up the roads checking in on recruiting targets.

On Tuesday, Dabo Swinney and Matt Luke were in the Pee Dee region, checking in on 4-star OL target Zyon Guiles (Carvers Bay). This marks the second time Luke has visited Guiles since the contact period began.

Guiles picked up his offer last summer after working out at camp and last visited for the rivalry matchup with South Carolina. No word from Guiles yet regarding whether he plans to visit for the Elite Retreat on March 8.

Swinney and Luke were also in to see 4-star OL target Carter Scruggs (Loudon County, VA) on Wednesday. It’s the second time Luke has been in to visit with Scruggs. The blue-chip talent has told TCI he will be on hand for the Elite Retreat.

Scruggs has also teased a big announcement that’s coming on January 26. He’s not expected to make a commitment at this time, so it’s possible he’ll be releasing a list for finalists.

Receivers coach Tyler Grisham and Swinney visited with 4-star WR target Gordon Sellars (Providence Day, NC) on Tuesday. Sellars picked up his offer in September and last visited for the South Carolina game. He’s told TCI he will attend the Elite Retreat.

Defensive ends coach Chris Rumph was in to see 4-star DE target Dre Quinn (Greater Atlanta Christian School, GA). It’s the second time Rumph has visited with Quinn. The first time he was accompanied by Swinney. Quinn last visited for the Louisville game and recently told TCI the Tigers were in his Top 3 and that he plans to attend the Elite Retreat.

Rumph also checked in on 4-star DE target Jake Kreul (IMG, FL). The blue-chip talent now has well over 40 offers, picking up one of the Tigers’ opening offers back in June after working out at camp.

Running backs coach CJ Spiller made a stop in to see 3-star CJ Givers (Fellowship Christian, GA). Givers has yet to pick up an offer from the Tigers but has visited in the past, most recently for the home opener last season against App State.

Givers currently hold offers from Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Georgia Tech, SMU, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin, among others.
