CLEMSON – The Clemson Insider takes a deep dive into Clemson’s ACC opponents for the 2025 college baseball season.
Georgia Tech is led by veteran head coach Danny Hall, who led Georgia Tech to a 33-25 record in the 2024 season, including a 15-15 mark in the ACC.
Clemson visits Atlanta for a three-game series against the Yellow Jackets March 28-30.
STRENGTHS:
The biggest strength of Georgia Tech is always going to be its ability to drive the baseball out of the yard at a very high and consistent level. If there is one constant about a Danny Hall led team, they are going to mash the fastball any chance they get.
Last year’s superstar Drew Burress is back to lead the offense. Emerging catcher Vahn Lackey hopes to produce offensively, while controlling a pitching staff that has loads of arm strength particularly in the rotational mix.
QUESTION MARKS
The biggest question for the Yellow Jackets is whether or not they have the depth to pitch at a high enough level to finish in the top half of the ACC.
Sophomores Tate McKee and Riley Stanford have high-end talent, but they will have to establish themselves as reliable ACC starters. There is serious upside to this pitching rotation, but just like many there is also a risk that these guys do not pan out, causing the Yellow Jackets to punt and resort to others.
TOP NEWCOMERS
Kyle Lodise, a transfer from D-II Augusta, made shockwaves at the Cape Cod League last summer by playing at a very high level. The shortstop illustrated power and discipline at the plate.
Freshmen Drew Rogers and Alex Hernandez create some flexibility from the right-handed batter’s box, as both have the ability to be impact players early in their careers for Georgia Tech.
Hall is very excited about Georgia Southern transfer Kent Schmidt, a left-handed bat that is the frontrunner for the first base position.
