CLEMSON — The Clemson Gymnastics team took care of business in its home opener versus Pittsburgh this past Friday at Littlejohn Coliseum.
Brie Clark played a big role in why the Tigers were able to knock off the Panthers before heading into Sunday’s meet at North Carolina.
In Clemson’s previous meet against Cal, Clark started to find her groove. Against Pitt, she kept the momentum rolling.
“I’ve been trying to work really hard translating what I do in practice to the gym. I think in our last meet it clicked,” Clark said. “I continue to build on that in this meet.”
The Tigers, currently ranked No. 22, completed the night with a 49.225 on the floor. Clark’s 9.925 in the meet’s final rotation propelled them to victory.
Clark didn’t know what to expect from the final scores.
“Usually during routines, I don’t really pay attention. I didn’t know what I needed to get for us to win,” she said.
Clark was glad Clemson found a way to win, though she felt it was not its best showing.
“We fought through every single routine,” she said. “Some things we wanted to fix from last week, we fixed this week.”
Friday was Clemson’s first time performing at Littlejohn Coliseum this year, and the energy in the building helped pull the Tigers through. Clemson hosted its fifth consecutive sellout, dating back to last season.
“It’s just really exciting,” Clark said. “The energy exudes from the fans.”
Clemson will try to build on the momentum from the Pitt meet, as its hits the road for the fourth time in three weeks to start the year.
