Swinney Adds Veteran Assistant to Coaching Staff

Former North Carolina wide receivers coach Lonnie Galloway has been added to the Clemson coaching staff as an offensive analyst. Galloway is listed in the university directory as a “volunteer coach.”

Galloway was the receivers coach and passing game coordinator for the Tar Heels since 2019 but was not retained when Bill Belichick was hired as head coach. He was promoted to assistant head coach ahead of the 2021 campaign.

The 53-year-old has also had coaching stints at West Virginia, Wake Forest and Louisville. With the Cardinals, Galloway also served as co-offensive coordinator and helped produce one of the nation’s highest-scoring offenses in 2016 and 2017, as Louisville ranked among the top five units in total offense and among the top 11 in scoring offense.

Galloway has been an assistant at the collegiate level for the last 27 seasons, including stops at Elon (1996-02), East Carolina (2003-04), Appalachian State (2005-07), West Virginia (2008-10, 2013-15), and Wake Forest (2011-12). He has produced 14 players that went on to play in the NFL, including nine drafted wide receivers since 2012.
