Some Clemson Super Bowl History for Hopkins

Super Bowl LIX certainly didn’t go how DeAndre Hopkins and the Kansas City Chiefs had hoped for on the scoreboard.

The Chiefs suffered a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, but for Hopkins, he at least had his own bright spots late in The Big Game and recorded some Clemson Super Bowl history in the process.

Playing in his first Super Bowl after 12 NFL seasons, Hopkins scored a touchdown with 2:54 left in the fourth quarter when he hauled in a 7-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes.

With that score, Hopkins joined William Perry (one rushing touchdown in Super Bowl XX) and Tee Higgins (two receiving touchdowns in Super Bowl LVI) to become the third Clemson product to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl.

Hopkins also added a two-point conversion in the final minutes. The five-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler scored eight of the Chiefs’ 22 points and finished with two catches for 18 yards and his touchdown on five targets.

After being traded to the Chiefs from the Tennessee Titans in October, Hopkins tallied 41 receptions for 437 yards and four touchdowns across 10 regular season games with the Chiefs before adding three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown over three postseason games including the Super Bowl.
