Bakich Provides Update on Status of Freshman Dane Moehler

CLEMSON — When the Clemson Baseball team leaves for Texas on Wednesday, they will do so a fairly healthy bunch.

Head coach Erik Bakich was asked about the health of his team after the No. 15 Tigers wrapped up preseason practice ahead of the season opener on Friday against No. 17 Oklahoma State at Globe Life Field.

“We have our bumps and bruises, nicks and scrapes,” Bakich said. “Got a couple of guys seeing doctors (Tuesday). But I think that is pretty typical of every season that we’ve had.”

One player that was set to see the doctor on Tuesday was freshman pitcher Dane Moehler. The right-handed hurler, who was competing for a spot in the weekend rotation, left Sunday’s scrimmage with an injury

“Hopefully it’s nothing,” Bakich said. “You hope for the best and if it is something you hope it’s minor and very short-term but we’ll know those details hopefully soon.”

Outside of waiting on the prognosis of Moehler, Bakich’s team is in pretty good shape and the Tigers are just counting down the days until first pitch is thrown on Friday.

“You just hope that everything is temporary but you don’t know until you see what the medical experts have to say,” Bakich said. “We have a few guys in that boat but for the most part, feeling good, feeling healthy and ready for pitch one, game one.”

The No. 15 Tigers begin the season by playing in the Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, Texas. Clemson opens against No. 17 Oklahoma State on Friday (noon EST), then will play No. 21 Arizona (noon EST) on Saturday, before finishing up with Ole Miss (3:30 EST) on Sunday.
