After working out at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp for the first time last summer, Ja’Hyde Brown has long known he would be back this June.
The 2027 wide receiver has seen his high school team at Christian Academy of Louisville win back-to-back-to-back state titles in the state of Kentucky and the winning culture at Clemson is something that he considers attractive.
When Brown attends camp on June 4, he’s coming with one goal in mind.
“This time I am coming to leave with an offer,” Brown told The Clemson Insider. ”
Brown has already landed offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Southern Miss, Toldeo, Miami (OH), Eastern Kentucky and Missouri State, among others. However, after experiencing a growth spurt over the past year that has seen him sprout up to 5-foot-9, Brown is expecting more offers to start rolling in.
One that he is really looking to earn is the hard-to-get offer from the Tigers.
“It would mean a lot to me,” Brown added. “Because this is what I’ve been working for these last few months. I’ve been getting bigger, stronger, faster, and I had a growth spurt.”
Another thing Brown likes about camping at Clemson is the level of coaching the players receive. He feels like the staff is looking to help make each and every player that attends at least a little bit better.
“It’s more competitive,” he said. “They do more teaching than the other camps. I feel like it’s a true evaluation. They teach you a lot of stuff. Other camps, they just throw you out there and they just want to see what you can do. But Clemson wants to develop you why you’re there.”
This will be Brown’s first time back on campus since working out at camp last summer. During the season, he took visits to Michigan and Louisville. He also attended a Junior Day at Kentucky earlier this month.
However, when comparing Clemson to some of the other schools that are currently recruiting him, there are a couple of things that make the Tigers stand out.
“That they are not too heavy in the portal,” Brown said. “They like to recruit a lot of high school kids. I also like Dabo as a players coach.”
On top of that, he sees himself as a really good fit in Garrett Riley’s offense.
“I can see myself fitting into the offense like Tyler Grisham,” Brown said. “I’m explosive, dynamic and I change the scoreboard.”
Seeing as he has yet to even start his junior year of high school, Brown is still extremely early in the recruiting process. Although, he already knows he’d like to land at a school that will help him fulfill his potential.
“I am looking for a school that is going to develop me,” Brown said. “Use me early and allow me to do a lot of different things. Not just play the slot. I want to be moved around.”
