Allen Trying to Find Best Fit for Alexander

CLEMSON — One question surrounding the Clemson defense this spring is where transfer Jeremiah Alexander fits in.

The former five-star transferred to Clemson from Alabama in the offseason, and after four practices, new defensive coordinator Tom Allen likes what he’s seen.

“I feel like he is a really good football player,” Allen said. “Trying to figure out where he best fits. I think that is a big goal for spring football.”

Allen said Wednesday was a big day for Alexander due to a couple of packages that were installed in which he would play a key role.

Alexander is also showing a willingness to go above and beyond. Add that to what Allen calls a strong football IQ, and maybe the change in scenery will lead to a breakout campaign for Alexander.

“Has a tremendous desire to want to play,” Allen added. “He is always in here doing something extra. Comes in on the weekends on his own, which is awesome to see. He is always studying film, asking really good questions. Has a good football IQ. Very strong guy and has some really good physical traits.”

Over his three seasons at Alabama, Alexander mostly saw action on special teams. He redshirted in 2022, then over the next two seasons appeared in 24 of the Tide’s 27 games while being credited with eight tackles.

However, after just four days, Allen sees the potential that led to Alexander being a five-star prospect coming out of high school and believes big things are in store for the talented linebacker.

“I am excited about Jeremiah,” Allen said. “I think he just has to continue to work and develop. He is obviously learning a new system like all these guys are, and that will be big. His ability to transfer that to the field. A guy that is going to do great things in our program.”
