New Jags GM Delivers Strong Statement on Lawrence

The best is yet to come for Trevor Lawrence, according to the new general manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

James Gladstone, who was hired as the Jaguars’ GM on Feb. 21, met with the media at the 2025 NFL Combine and delivered a strong statement regarding Jacksonville’s franchise quarterback.

Gladstone is bullish on Lawrence’s potential under the tutelage of new Jaguars head coach Liam Coen.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Trevor,” Gladstone said of the former Clemson star.

“I’m really excited for Liam to get a chance to work with him, support him, and really bring the tools that he has in his arsenal to life.”

Four years after Lawrence was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Jaguars are looking to further enhance the roster around Lawrence through this year’s draft — especially up front in terms of protecting the QB.

Jacksonville’s offensive line has been a significant issue and Lawrence has taken too many hits, so Gladstone and the Jags want to keep him upright.

“I think it starts by the protection,” said Gladstone, who came to Jacksonville after nine seasons with the Los Angeles Rams (2016-24), most recently serving as director of scouting strategy (2022-24).

“Making sure that he feels like he’s got as much time to work with as possible, and also that he’s comfortable with the pass catchers. So I think through that lens, he’s going to feel that change in both the operation schematically and then the personnel that we invite into the building.”

The Jaguars signed Lawrence to a massive five-year, $275 million contract extension prior to the 2024 season, when Lawrence ended up completing 60.6 percent of his passes for 2,045 yards with 11 touchdown passes and seven interceptions over 10 games.

The 25-year-old was placed on injured reserve Dec. 4 after his shoulder injury and concussion, and he underwent successful surgery on Dec. 17 to repair the AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.

Over his first four NFL seasons, Lawrence has completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 13,815 yards and 69 touchdowns with 46 interceptions in his 60 games.
