Clemson defensive coordinator Tom Allen is high on Jeremiah Alexander as a football player, and Allen said recently that he was just “trying to figure out where (Alexander) best fits” on defense.
That’s a big goal for spring practice, according to Allen, and it seems that goal is getting accomplished.
Alexander, who transferred to Clemson from Alabama early this year, met with the media this week and said he’s found his position with the Tigers.
“I feel like I’ve found the right position playing off-ball linebacker, up here playing the WILL backer,” Alexander said. “Some packages, being able to rush the passer and play 6-technique, 9-technique, and just third-down vs. 12-personnel. Big packages, being able to be an anchor in the edge of the defense.”
Alexander is listed at 6-foot-2, 250 pounds on his official Clemson Football bio, but the former five-star prospect said that’s what he weighed when he began his college career at Alabama back in 2022.
According to Alexander, he is actually 233-35 pounds right now.
“I feel like that’s probably the old measurement from when I first got to Bama playing outside linebacker,” Alexander said. “I was probably 250 when I first got to college, but now I’m down to about 233, 235.”
Over his three seasons at Alabama, Alexander mostly saw action on special teams. He redshirted in 2022, then over the next two seasons appeared in 24 of the Tide’s 27 games while being credited with eight tackles.
Allen believes big things are in store for Alexander moving forward, and Alexander is going to enjoy playing in Allen’s defensive scheme.
“Just being able to play fast and not having to think a lot,” Alexander said. “So, that allows you to be on the same page with the guys beside you and just play wide open each and every down, not having to think about a lot of different schemes and checks and formations and stuff. Just being able to line up and play the game that we all love.”
