Where Carter Landed in Latest Mock Draft

A longtime draft analyst recently released his second mock of next month’s NFL Draft.

NFL.com’s Chad Reuter unveiled a four-round 2025 NFL mock draft, and linebacker Barrett Carter is the lone Clemson product that Reuter projects to be picked among the draft’s first 138 selections.

The mock draft from Reuter, who has covered the NFL Draft since 2000, has Carter coming off the board in the fourth round and going to the Indianapolis Colts with the 117th overall pick.

A two-time All-America selection and two-time All-ACC honoree, Carter was credited by Clemson’s coaching staff with 254 tackles (31.5 for loss), 12.5 sacks, 24 pass breakups, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries over 52 games (40 starts) from 2021-24.

At the conclusion of his career, Carter’s 2,482 career snaps were the most by a Tiger linebacker on record. He was the only player in the nation during his four-year career to record at least 30 tackles for loss, at least 20 pass breakups and three or more interceptions.

The 2025 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held from April 24-26 inside and around iconic Lambeau Field and Titletown in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks recently ranked the top five players at each position in this year’s draft class, and he has Carter as the No. 4 off-ball linebacker, while ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. currently ranks Carter as the eighth-best off-ball linebacker for the 2025 draft.

Carter ran a 4.64 in the 40-yard dash at Clemson’s Pro Day on March 13. It was the first time Carter ran the 40 in the draft process, after holding out at the NFL Scouting Combine last month.

Carter said then that he had spoken with roughly 28 NFL teams ahead of the draft, with a few that have reached out for more conversations, and said he has heard different things on where teams will use him.

“I have heard inside (backer). I have heard outside. I have heard about playing dime in certain packages. I have heard a bunch of things,” Carter said. “So depending on the team and depending on their needs, it just depends. I have heard a whole bunch of things.

“I think with my intelligence, I can come in and learn different spots and play in different spots in their defense. They have been telling me different positions.”
