Year 3 of Riley Offense Running Smooth

CLEMSON — Though most of the talk around Clemson’s Spring Practices have been about new defensive coordinator Tom Allen and the defense, the offense in Tigertown is set to have another big year.

The Tigers not only return Heisman hopeful Cade Klubnik at quarterback, but they also return all three starters at wide receiver and all but one player on the offensive line.

Having that many veteran players back, makes Year 3 of the Garrett Riley offense a lot easier to maneuver through at practice. In other words, practices these days are a whole lot easier, and having a third-year starter at quarterback helps a lot.

“Cade’s leadership has obviously improved,” Riley said. “The year he had a year ago, he takes that to heart. But I also think, we have really good leadership on our offense that I am proud of.”

There is plenty of reasons to be proud of a unit that finished 11th nationally in total offense (451.9 ypg) and 18th in scoring offense (34.7 ppg) in 2024. The Clemson offense played a big role in why the Tigers won another ACC Championship and advanced to the College Football Playoff.

Some people think the Tigers have something still to prove this year, but Riley knows they will be ready regardless of what the outside noise might say.

“I know they will continue to take that to heart and improve as well, but at receiver, on the O-Line, and though we are probably young overall at tight end, we got people that have been here at couple of years,” he said. “Obviously, they have some shoes to fill, but from a leadership and quality standpoint, I think we are setup to excel in that area.

“Obviously, you have to still go out there and make plays. All of that stuff matters. But from a leadership standpoint, we are in a good spot right now.”

And that should make for a another exciting season.

Clemson will continue spring practice today, as it hosts it second stadium scrimmage of the spring at Memorial Stadium. The Tigers will conclude Spring Drills on April 5 with their Annual Orange & White Spring Game.

Kickoff for the spring game is set for 1 p.m.
