Clemson Secures Big Portal Commitment

Clemson has made another big move in the transfer portal.

The Clemson Insider has confirmed that former Utah Valley forward Carter Welling, who visited last weekend, has committed to the Tigers. He chose Clemson over Ole Miss.

With the Tigers losing both Viktor Lakhin and Ian Schieffelin to graduation, as well as Chauncey Wiggins to the portal, Welling fills one of the major needs for head coach Brad Brownell. He is the second transfer the Tigers have landed this week with former Nevada big man Nick Davidson announcing for Clemson on Wednesday.

As a sophomore, the 6-foot-10 big man started all 32 of his team’s games, averaging 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game. He was named All-WAC second-team.

After earning WAC Defensive Player of the Year honors Welling also gives Brownell the defensive tenacity he tends to covet.
