This Week In ACC Baseball

As several Atlantic Coast Conference baseball teams turn the page towards the back half of conference play, all 16 teams will once again be in action this weekend. Through five weekends of conference play, Clemson leads ACC teams with a 9-3 record, closely followed by Georgia Tech at 11-4.

Coming off of a series win against then-No. 4 Florida State, Wake Forest will look to continue its winning ways against No. 16 North Carolina this weekend. The series will begin on Thursday, April 10, at 6 p.m. ET on ACC Network. The series will resume on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. ET, before concluding on Sunday, April 13, at 1 p.m. ET. Saturday’s contest is slated to air on ESPN2.

After upsetting No. 20 Troy in a midweek clash on Wednesday, April 9, No. 25 Virginia Tech will host No. 9 Florida State for three games in ACC play.  Both the Seminoles and Hokies enter the series in the top six of the ACC standings, with Florida State at 8-4 and Virginia Tech at 9-6. All three games throughout the series will stream on ACC Network Extra.

Louisville, who sits at No. 14 in the D1Baseball rankings this week, will hit the road for a three-game series at NC State. All three games of the weekend set will be streamed on ACCNX, beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Friday. Louisville’s Eddie King Jr. recorded a walk-off single against Kentucky on Tuesday, April 8, for the Cardinals’ fifth walk-off victory of the season.

California and Stanford will each head east for the weekend for a pair of conference series. The Golden Bears will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a series against No. 18 Georgia Tech with all three games being streamed on ACCNX. Stanford will square off with No. 4 Clemson, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. ET on ESPNU. Each of the final two games between the Cardinal and the Tigers will be televised on ACC Network, beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday and 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Duke will head to Coral Gables, Florida, for a three-game set against Miami, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. ET on ACCNX. Virginia will play host to Pitt for a weekend series which will start on Friday at 4 p.m. ET in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Around the Horn

  • The ACC boasts a 32-19 record against non-conference opponents from Power 4 leagues, including a .500 record or better against each Power 4 league. The ACC enters the week 8-8 against the SEC, 10-8 versus the Big 12, and 14-3 against the Big Ten.
  • As of April 7, 10 of the ACC’s 16 teams rank inside the top 40 of RPI, including five teams in the top 25. Clemson leads the way at No. 2, followed by No. 10 Georgia Tech, No. 18 Wake Forest, No. 22 North Carolina and No. 24 Florida State.
  • Virginia Tech is ranked in the D1Baseball polls for the first time since April 15, 2024, entering at No. 25. The Hokies have won three straight ACC series, including two over ranked opponents, and will host No. 9 Florida State this weekend.
  • Florida State’s Joey Volini was tabbed the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Month for March on Tuesday, April 8, after posting a 5-0 record with a 1.09 ERA and 50 strikeouts over 33.0 innings of work. Volini was also named a D1Baseball Midseason All-American and to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List.
  • 11 of the ACC’s 16 schools were included in last week’s D1Baseball Field of 64 projections, including Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina, who were projected regional hosts. Georgia Tech, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest were slotted as No. 2 seeds, while Duke, NC State, Stanford and Virginia earned a projected No. 3 seed. Baseball America also projected California as a First Four Out, while Boston College would be in the Next Four Out grouping.
  • The ACC had 12 players named to the 45-man Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, which ranks second among all conferences. Florida State and Wake Forest led the league with three honorees each.
  • D1Baseball named 10 ACC standouts to its midseason All-America teams, including eight on the first team. Florida State’s Alex Lodise was also named Midseason National Player of the Year by D1Baseball, while Virginia Tech’s Sam Tackett was tabbed as the Midseason National Breakout Star.
  • Perfect Game named 12 ACC student-athletes to their Midseason All-America teams, including seven on the first team. PG also pegged six ACC standouts as Midseason Freshman All-Americans.
