Clemson Transfer Commits to SoCon School

A former Clemson men’s basketball player has found his new college home.

Asa Thomas announced his commitment to a SoCon school – Furman – on Monday.

Last month, Thomas became the first Clemson player to enter his name into the transfer portal after the Tigers’ season ended in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward redshirted in 2023-’24, then missed most of this past season due to injury. In 2023-’24, he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery and redshirted the season.

Thomas played in 12 games overall this past season (27 total minutes) and averaged 1.2 points per game. He was 4-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-8 from 3-point range, and posted two total rebounds with a couple of assists and one steal.

A native of Lake Forest, Ill., Thomas was rated a three-star prospect coming out of high school, according to 247Sports and Rivals.

He led the Illinois Wolves in scoring in his final season on the UAA circuit, averaging 15.1 points per game, while shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 38.0 percent from 3.

Thomas was recognized by Synergy Sports as being the most offensively efficient player on the UAA 17U circuit at the time. Thomas averaged a circuit-best 1.07 points per possession.
