Bad News for South Carolina

Clemson’s in-state rival is losing a highly regarded signal-caller to the portal.

South Carolina quarterback Dante Reno plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

A former four-star prospect, Reno was considered the No. 5 player in the state of Connecticut for the 2024 recruiting class by both ESPN and Rivals. ESPN ranked him as the No. 12 pocket passer in the country for his class, while Rivals regarded him as the 19th-best pro-style quarterback.

As a senior at Cheshire (Conn.) Academy, Reno completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 2,358 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while adding 232 yards and eight more scores on the ground. He was selected as an Under Armour All-American and named a team captain for the game, and he was an Elite 11 Finalist as well.

Reno enrolled at South Carolina in January 2024 and redshirted last season, when he appeared in one game for the Gamecocks. He was the only quarterback signed by South Carolina in the 2024 signing class.

The 6-foot-2, 214-pounder will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
