Former Clemson Standout Enjoying Strong Start to MLB Season

A former Clemson standout is enjoying a strong start to the Major League Baseball season.

Eli White has been impressive and highly productive for the Atlanta Braves.

In 45 at-bats across the 22 games he’s played in this season, the 30-year-old outfielder owns a .311 batting average, .367 on-base percentage and .600 slugging percentage. He has two home runs and a couple of stolen bases to go with five doubles, a triple, seven runs batted in and 14 runs scored.

In Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies, White went 1-for-4 with a stolen base, one day after going 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored in the Braves’ 8-2 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

On April 23, White clocked his first home run of the 2025 season – a three-run shot in the eighth inning that broke a 1-1 tie and lifted Atlanta to a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

A few days later, he hit a two-run homer in the Braves’ 8-7, extra-inning win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

White’s performance so far this season is a continuation of his strong spring training, when he hit .318 with a .843 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage).

Back in December 2022, White was traded to the Braves from the Texas Rangers in exchange for cash considerations.

Drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft, White played three seasons (2020-22) in the majors with Texas after being traded to the Rangers from the A’s in 2018.

In his major league career thus far, White has tallied 12 home runs, 22 steals, 16 doubles, three triples, 39 RBI and 71 runs scored across 193 games spanning the 2020-25 seasons.

At Clemson, White was the starting shortstop during all of the 2015 and 2016 seasons. For his college career, he hit .275 with a .375 on-base percentage in 153 games (133 starts) over three seasons (2014-16) while notching 22 doubles, four triples, eight homers, 61 RBIs, 104 runs and 36 steals.
