TCI Recruiting Roundup: Another Name Worth Monitoring at Running Back

Recruiting can be a whirlwind of an experience for some high school prospects.

Such is the case for three-star running back CJ Givers (Fellowship Christian, Roswell, GA). The 5-foot-10, 195-pound now has more than 30 offers and he is getting serious looks from several big boy football programs. Since the beginning of the year, Ole Miss, Ohio State and Florida have offered. Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, NC State, SMU and Indiana are just a few of his other offers.

While Clemson hasn’t offered, Givers is certainly on the Tigers’ radar. He’s visited in the past and running backs coach CJ Spiller visited Givers back in January during the contact period, a meeting that lasted more than 90 minutes. And Givers told The Clemson Insider that he is expecting Spiller to attend one of his spring practices.

Clemson currently has offers out to two uncommitted running backs in Carsyn Baker and Jae Lamar. Both are four-star talents, and both are scheduled to attend the big official visit weekend from May 30 to June 2. Givers is slated to be at Georgia Tech that weekend.

Even though Givers isn’t set to be on hand at Clemson that weekend, he is a name worth monitoring as we go through the summer months. While the staff isn’t likely to move on to another target until Lamar and Baker make decisions, what happens if the Tigers miss on both?

Givers could be the next man up. Although, like Lamar and Baker, he is also looking to make a decision before the start of his senior season. Lamar has already set a commitment date of July 4.

Having already been on Clemson’s radar, Givers is fully aware of how the staff handles the recruiting process.

“You never want to be in a situation where a coach won’t take you because they give out uncommittable offers. That’s really important to me,” Givers told TCI previously. “I mean, I really appreciate the fact that they don’t want to give out uncommitable offers. That’s a huge thing. That’s what makes me not be as impatient with it. Because I know that if they do offer me, it’s committable.”

As a junior, Givers rushed for more than 1,400 yards and averaged over nine yards per carry. He finished with more than 1,800 all-purpose yards and 21 total touchdowns.
