Swinney: ‘Proud of These Guys’

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was back in his native Alabama on Sunday afternoon to see the Week 6 UFL contest between the Birmingham Stallions and San Antonio Brahmas – a rematch of the 2024 UFL championship game.

Swinney was on hand at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala., to support multiple former Clemson players who now suit up for the Stallions.

Wide receivers Amari Rodgers and Deon Cain are on the Stallions’ roster, as is cornerback Mario Goodrich, though he didn’t play Sunday.

Swinney got to watch as Rodgers scored on a 43-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter of the Stallions’ eventual 26-3 victory over the Brahmas. Rodgers finished with three receptions for 55 yards and his first touchdown of the season, while Cain hauled in a couple of catches for 46 yards. Rodgers also returned one kick for 14 yards and had two punt returns for 37 yards.

Swinney was interviewed during FOX’s broadcast of Sunday’s game.

“Tigers on the board today baby! It’s good to see,” Swinney said. “I’m proud of Amari, and Deon. Deon had a nice catch, and Mario Goodrich is on the team as well. He wasn’t able to travel today. But proud of these guys, and it’s fun to be here to support them.”

Swinney also spoke about his excitement for the 2025 college football season with quarterback Cade Klubnik leading a Clemson team that returns no shortage of talent.

“We’ve got a lot of guys back,” Swinney said. “We only had six guys in the draft available. Three of them were drafted, all six signed. We all know it starts with your quarterback, so any time you have a talented quarterback, that’s great. But when you have a talented quarterback that has a lot of experience who’s won championships and has been to the playoffs and he’s got that in his tank, that’s always exciting.”
