The Carolina Panthers’ wide receiver room now features a pair of Palmetto State natives from rival schools – Clemson’s Hunter Renfrow and South Carolina’s Xavier Legette.
Legette is entering his second NFL season in 2025 after being selected by the Panthers in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft, while Renfrow is a new addition to Carolina’s receiving corps after agreeing to a deal with the team on April 27, following a year out of the NFL last season.
So, what is the dynamic like with the Tigers’ Renfrow and the Gamecocks’ Legette?
Legette recently appeared on Up & Adams Show with NFL personality Kay Adams, and he was asked if he gave Renfrow a warm welcome to the Panthers.
“Oh yeah, for sure, man,” Legette said. “I didn’t really get to play against Hunter Renfrow. But he’s like 25 minutes from where I’m from. So, it ain’t no bad blood with him.”
Legette, who hails from Mullins, S.C., played for the Gamecocks from 2019-23, while Renfrow, a Myrtle Beach native, suited up for the Tigers from 2014-18.
Legette has gone viral for his distinctly strong Southern accent since being drafted by the Panthers, and even certain teammates/coaches have admitted to not being able to understand him.
But it seems as though Renfrow, being from South Carolina, can in fact understand what Legette is saying.
“We’ve been having little mini conversations, and I don’t see the reaction on his face, like he don’t [understand me],” Legette said.
