TCI Recruiting Roundup: Update On Four-Star RB Target

One of Clemson’s top two running back targets, Jae Lamar, is set to announce a commitment on July 4.

The four-star back (Colquitt County, Moultrie, GA) emerged as one of the top two targets at the position early this year, with running backs coach CJ Spiller making multiple stops by his high school during the contact period in July. That led to Lamar making a multi-day spring visit to Clemson, where he would officially pick up his offer from the Tigers.

Lamar told The Clemson Insider after that visit that the Tigers stood “number one” on his board, although he has since backed off those comments, saying he doesn’t currently have a favorite.

Spiller has already been back to Lamar’s high school once during the current contact period, and TCI has learned that the Tigers’ assistant coach plans to visit him again on Monday.

Lamar has already named his six finalists, with Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami and Auburn all making the cut.

The 6-foot, 205-pound recruit has already divulged plans to be on hand for the Tigers’ big official visit weekend from May 30 to June 2.

As a junior, Lamar carried the ball 112 times and averaged 7.9 yards per attempt, with 11 touchdowns. Rivals ranks him No. 98 overall and No. 4 among all running backs. He also ranks No. 14 in the talent-rich state of Georgia.
