Clemson Seed, Schedule Set for First Game of ACC Tournament

With Clemson’s weekend sweep of Pitt and Florida State’s win over North Carolina on Saturday, the Tigers have secured the No. 5 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.

Clemson has locked up a bye into the second round and will begin tournament play at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Starting this year, the ACC is moving away from pool play in favor of a single-elimination tournament. All 16 ACC teams will make the field.

While the Tigers’ opponent is yet to be determined, they will play the winner of the first-round matchup between the No. 12 seed and the No. 13 seed. If Clemson were to win that game, the Tigers would face off with the No. 4 seed on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

The semifinals will be held on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m, with the championship game set for noon on Sunday.

With its sweep of Pitt, Clemson finished the regular season 41-15 overall and 18-12 in ACC play. The Tigers have now won 40 or more games in each of Erik Bakich’s first three seasons.

The Tigers are also looking to host an NCAA Regional for the third consecutive season. After its win over the Panthers on Saturday, the team has currently moved up to No. 10 in the RPI. Although with more games to be played, that number remains fluid.

UPDATE: NC State has earned the No. 4 seed, meaning if Clemson were to advance past the second round, that would set up a rematch between the Tigers and the Wolfpack on Thursday. NC State swept Clemson in Raleigh earlier this season, handing the Tigers their first series loss of the season.
