CLEMSON — Like they have done for several months now, Clemson made the plays it needed to in the key moments in Friday’s 10-2 walk-off victory over USC Upstate in Game 2 of the Clemson Regional at McWhorter Stadium.
With the game tied at two in the bottom of the fourth inning, Kylee Johnson launched a three-run home run to left field that gave the Tigers a three-run lead, a lead they did not relinquish the rest of the night. Marian Collins then hit a two-run double off the wall in right field that sparked a five-run fifth inning, which ended the game due to the NCAA’s eight-run mercy rule.
“I really loved the fight of our team today,” Clemson head coach John Rittman said.
In that five-run fifth inning, four consecutive Tigers earned RBI hits, including freshman Taylor Pipkins, who knocked in the final of three consecutive doubles to walk it off for the Tigers. Collins went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in, as Clemson totaled 10 hits.
