Clemson Ready to ‘Go Shock the World’ in Super Regional

CLEMSON — At the end of Clemson’s 5-1 victory over Kentucky, Clemson’s marketing department played The Bluest Eyes in Texas over the loud speakers as the Tigers’ celebrated their third regional championship in five years.

The reason they played Restless Heart’s hit song from 1988 is simple, that is where the Tigers are going next. Clemson will be deep in the heart of Texas next week when they hit the road for Austin, Texas, where they will battle No. 6 overall seed the Texas Longhorns in the Super Regional Round of the NCAA Softball Tournament.

Clemson (47-12) will be vying for its first trip to the Women’s College World Series. Head coach John Rittman believes his No. 11 seeded Tigers are playing well enough to go to Texas and shock the world next week.

“It takes a team to get to this point. Team 6 will forever have our heart,” Rittman said. “The job is not done yet. We still have more games to play. One of our mantras when we started this program is to ‘Go Shock the World.’ What better way to do it than to go to the Austin (Super) Regional and play Texas for a chance to go to the World Series.”
