Former Clemson Wideouts Shine in UFL Action

A couple of former Clemson wide receivers shined in UFL action over the weekend.

Cornell Powell posted four receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns for his DC Defenders team in their 33-30 victory over the Arlington Renegades on Sunday.

Powell had a 4-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter and added a 3-yard touchdown reception with 10:28 left in the fourth quarter that put the Defenders up 33-23.

It marked the first multi-touchdown game of the season for Powell, who has now tallied 50-plus receiving yards in four of his last five games.

With the victory, Powell and the Defenders secured a spot in the XFL Conference Championship against the St. Louis Battlehawks.

Meanwhile, fellow former Clemson wideout Deon Cain hauled in two catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns for the Birmingham Stallions in their 29-28 loss to the Battlehawks on Saturday.

Cainโ€™s first score came from 65 yards out in the first quarter and then 50 yards in the third quarter. It was the first time a Stallions receiver has caught two touchdown passes in a game since May 2024.

Despite the loss, Cain and the Stallions solidified a spot in the USFL Conference Championship Game against the Michigan Panthers.

Cain ranks first in the UFL in receiving yards (436) and tied for second in the league with four receiving touchdowns, while Powell is first in the league with five touchdown receptions and 10th in the league in receiving yards (314).
