Clemson-South Carolina Listed Among ‘Most Unbalanced Rivalries’

College Sports Network recently took a look at college football’s most unbalanced rivalries.

Clemson vs. South Carolina is listed among what College Sports Network described as “so-called rivalries” that have been “laughably one-sided”:

“Clemson holds the upper hand in this in-state rivalry. The Tigers lead 73-44-4 and have scored 29 more total points.

However, South Carolina had its own golden run from 2009 to 2013. Under Steve Spurrier, the Gamecocks won five straight, powered by stars like Connor Shaw and Jadeveon Clowney.

After the aforementioned winning streak against Clemson, South Carolina lost each of the next seven meetings spanning from 2014-21.

The Tigers have won eight of the 10 matchups against the Gamecocks since 2013, with the lone losses to South Carolina coming in the last two games at Death Valley (2022, 2024).

The rivalry will reignite on Saturday, Nov. 29 when Clemson travels to Columbia to face South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Clemson has won each of its last five road games at South Carolina across the 2015-23 seasons, and a win would give the Tigers six straight road wins against the Gamecocks for the first time since winning in Columbia six straight times across the 1989-99 seasons.

Clemson’s 73 all-time wins against South Carolina are the program’s most against any opponent.

South Carolina won the series opener in 1896 before Clemson evened the series in 1897. Clemson won the third game in the series on Nov. 17, 1898 to take a 2-1 series lead — a lead Clemson hasn’t relinquished.

The other unbalanced rivalries listed by College Sports Network include UNC vs. NC State, Georgia vs. Georgia Tech, Alabama vs. LSU, Washington vs. Washington State, Purdue vs. Indiana, Michigan vs. Michigan State, Texas vs. Texas A&M, Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt and Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State.
