Listi’s ‘Relentless’ Approach Fueling Clemson to Offensive Resurgence

DURHAM, N.C. — Dominic Listi just continues to be a spark for the Clemson baseball team. He is the glue-guy for the offense.

All season long, and no matter where he has hit in the lineup, the transfer has set the table for the hitters behind him. He reached base three more times in Wednesday’s 6-1 win over Virginia Tech in the second round of the ACC Baseball Championship, raising his on-base percentage to .492.

However, in recent games, Listi has done more than set the table. He was a catalyst in the win over the Hokies, driving in four runs and all with two outs. His two-run homer in the bottom of the first set the tone early, and the Tigers never really looked back.

“I think it just boils down to being ready to hit in certain situations,” Listi said. “Knowing yourself as a player and just taking the approach we get from our coaching staff. Just doing your best to execute that. I thought 1-through-9 at the play today, we did a very good job of just being relentless. Even when we had a bad at-bat, the next person was ready to pick us up.”

Last weekend at Pitt, Listi had six hits in the three-game sweep of the Panthers and walked two more times. His three-run shot in the game three win helped propel Clemson to finish off the sweep, and the outfielder has carried that momentum into the ACC Tournament.

“Just being ready to hit with a runner in scoring position and two outs,” Listi added. “We have game goals as a team, and one of them is two-out RBIs. Just a good spot right there to be ready to execute and give my team a chance.”

Heading into the final ACC series of the regular season at Pitt, the Tigers had lost nine of 12, and were no longer projected to host a regional. While Clemson did finish just one game out of first place in the conference standings, the skid resulted in the Tigers slipping down to the No. 5 seed in the ACC Tournament.

With the postseason now underway, that rough patch is a thing of the past, and Listi believes this team has built up the kind of momentum during its current four-game winning streak that can guide them to a deep run in Durham. Not to mention a third consecutive year of hosting a regional at home.

“It was no secret that we hit a little bit of a rough patch as a team,” Listi said. “But last weekend against Pitt and continuing to roll it over — like I said, 1-through-9, I truly believe we are all relentless and ruthless at the plate right now. And I think that will show dividends in the future for what Clemson baseball is going to do here.”
