With the 2025 MLB Draft coming up in July, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel released his first mock draft of the year this week.
McDaniel has Clemson outfielder Cam Cannarella going to the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 40th overall pick (Competitive Balance Round A).
“Cannarella hasn’t looked quite the same as he did last spring and scouts seem to think he won’t go in the top 20-30 picks,” McDaniel wrote. “I think this drop is too far for his talent and would be another draft coup for the Dodgers.”
The Dodgers are one of the teams that received a 10-pick penalty on their first pick for exceeding the second surcharge threshold of the Competitive Balance Tax, meaning their first pick will occur in Competitive Balance Round A.
As a junior this season, Cannarella is hitting .339 with three home runs, 20 doubles, two triples, six steals, 45 RBI and 57 runs scored across 218 at-bats over 58 games (all starts). He has a .964 OPS and leads the team in batting average, doubles, hits (74) and total bases (107).
Cannarella is a two-time All-ACC selection and was named an All-American in 2024, when he hit .337 with 11 homers and 60 RBIs despite being hampered by injury most of the season. He entered the 2025 season hitting .363 with 32 doubles, six triples, 18 homers, 107 RBIs, 130 runs and 24 steals over 117 games.
Cannarella is the No. 34 overall prospect in this year’s draft class, according to McDaniel’s draft rankings, while MLB.com ranks him as the No. 39 overall draft prospect.
The 2025 MLB Draft will take place from July 13-14 in Atlanta.
