CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney’s high school camps kicked off on Tuesday, with more than 500 players expected to compete on the first day of action.
The Clemson Insider was on hand for all of the afternoon action, and there is a lot to digest.
– The biggest name to work out today was five-star QB Elijah Haven (Dunham School, Baton Rouge, LA), the top-rated player in the 2027 class. He was the MaxPreps National Sophomore Player of the Year last season.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing around 215 pounds, Haven is a physical specimen. He worked out at both the morning and afternoon sessions, showing off a big arm and elite footwork. His deep balls are a thing of beauty. Georgia, Florida State, Florida, LSU, Miami and Ole Miss are among his many offers. Could he be one of the Tigers’ first QB offers in the next class?
– 2026 QB Mason Hotlzclaw also worked out at both sessions. Holtzclaw recently transferred to Carrollton (GA) and reclassified to the 2026 class. Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech have all offered. The ball comes out of his hands very smoothly, and his accuracy is on point.
– 2027 four-star CB Mikhail McCreary (Claudia Taylor Johnson, TX) was on hand. The 6-foot-1 defensive back has a lot of length. He moves his feet well, and flips his hips in coverage. He is a Top 200 talent with offers from Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech, North Carolina and SMU.
Local product Walker Kelly stood out. The 2027 TE/LB out of TL Hanna was sharp working with the tight ends. Ben Boulware has also been showing some interest, visiting Kelly’s school multiple times this year.
– Former QB Kelly Bryant, now a coach at Woodland High School, had one of his players work out. 2026 DE Kaleb Simpkins made the trek to campus, as Bryant intently watched on.
– One name to file away for the future is 2028 QB Luke Wilson (Clearwater Central Catholic). While only a rising sophomore, Wilson held his own against some of the older quarterbacks he was working with. His throws have plenty of zip, and his ball placement is really good. He was an MVP in one of the freshman All-American games after last season.
– Another one to file away is WR Tristen Ford. He is the nephew of former Clemson wideout Jacoby Ford and was on hand with his father, Davy Ford, who played at Florida State and with the Dallas Cowboys. Ford is a burner. He recently ran a 4.47 40-yard dash and that speed stood out on Tuesday.
– Another big name that was working out was none other than Ian Schieffelin, the former Clemson basketball standout. Schieffelin was obviously working with the tight ends and fully locked in on Kyle Richardson, who was giving him a lot of one-on-one attention in the afternoon session.
