Clemson Adds Another Portal Commitment

CLEMSON — The Clemson baseball team added another commitment from the transfer portal on Wednesday.

A day after former Alabama pitcher Ariston Veasey announced his commitment to the Tigers, Erik Bakich and his staff got more good news, as Catawba’s Hayden Simmerson announced his intentions to join the Clemson program via social media.

Simmerson has two years of eligibility remaining after spending his first two seasons as a primary reliever for Catawba College were he was a First-Team NCAA Division II All-American in 2025. He was the program’s first First-Team All-American as a reliever.

The righty recorded 17 saves in 2025 and 25 in his two seasons at Catawba. He was also the South Atlantic Conference’s Freshman of the Year in 2024.

This past season, Simmerson appeared in 31 games with one start and 17 saves. He pitched 64 1/3 innings and posted a 3.36 ERA. He tallied a 1.09 whip with 73 strikeouts to just 19 walks. He averaged 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

In 2024, the SAC Freshman of the Year had a 3.98 ERA with a whip of 1.48. He appeared in 30 games and made eight starts.

Simmerson pitched in 72 1/3 innings in 2024 and recorded eight saves. He added 83 strikeouts to 45 walks and had 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
