CLEMSON — Christian Chancellor has been working out at Dabo Swinney’s camp each summer going back a few years.
A local cornerback out of nearby Daniel High School, as well as being the son of former Tigers’ corner Chris Chancellor, the 2027 defensive back was once again showing off his skills on the practice fields when this year’s first camp session was held on Tuesday. He last visited for the Underclass Experience in March.
Chancellor worked out during both the morning and afternoon sessions, getting a lot of positive feedback from the coaching staff.
“I got a lot of feedback,” Chancellor told The Clemson Insider. “About how I can compose, because I am not the biggest guy, so I have to do things a little bit harder. They were just telling me that I looked good. And if I missed a rep or didn’t do good on one, they would give me a lot of feedback. But they told me I had a great camp.”
However, it was once the afternoon session had concluded that Chancellor saw all of his hard work finally pay off. He was taken to Dabo Swinney’s office, where he patiently waited for the longtime head coach.
Once Swinney arrived, he extended an offer, with Chancellor becoming just the third corner in his class to land one. While he was always hopeful one would come, the actual moment was still surreal.
“I was in disbelief,” Chancellor added. “Because it’s just a blessing to get offered by my dream school I’ve had since I was young. It’s just such a blessing to get offered by the same school that my dad got offered from, and even played there. It’s just all a blessing. Me and my dad are also the first father-son under Dabo to be offered.”
And Chancellor will always know it’s an offer he earned.
“I had a tiny feeling, but also knew I had to work for it,” Chancellor told The Clemson Insider. “Just do what I do best at. That’s kind of how I felt about it.”
While he hasn’t firmed up a distinct timeline for making a decision, Chancellor did say there is a possibility it could be “pretty soon.” And if he does indeed choose Clemson, he’ll have the opportunity to shine on the same field that his father had so much success on.
“It means a lot. It,” Chancellor said. “It’s just very unbelievable to me that I could go out and do the same dream my dad had.”
