CLEMSON — More than 1,300 high school prospects have rolled through Clemson this weekend to compete in Dabo Swinney’s high school camp.
All week long, The Clemson Insider has provided insight on some of the more highly-touted recruits that have worked out, as well as some under-the-radar type of players.
Sunday morning, the final workout took place, and once again, TCI was on hand for all of the action.
– One of the biggest names of the week made an appearance on the camp’s final day. Four-star QB Peyton Houston (Evangel Christian, Shreveport, LA) was a tad late due to some travel issues, but one onlooker who is very familiar with Houston told us to “let him warm up, and then we were going to see some stuff.” And see some stuff we did.
Houston was overly impressive. He has the arm strength to make all the throws, and his accuracy is on point. He didn’t always get a lot of help from some of the receivers on hand, but the ball was always right where it was supposed to be. It is readily apparent why he is one of the Top 10 quarterbacks in the 2027 class. Dabo Swinney, Garrett Riley, John Grass, Jordan Sorrells and Kevin Kelly were all watching his throw at one point.
His father and mother were both on hand this morning, watching him work out. Houston visited Clemson in March, and only his father came with him for that visit. He was so impressed by Dabo Swinney and how he runs his program that he made sure to bring his wife this time so she could also get a feel for the culture. On top of that March visit, Riley paid him two visits during the most recent contact period, with one of those being for Houston’s spring game.
Houston has already worked out at Texas and Oklahoma and plans to work out at Southern Cal after his stop in Clemson. Those are the only camps he plans to attend as of now. The blue-chip QB already has close to 30 offers and there is a distinct possibility he adds one from Clemson before the day is over.
– 2028 QB Charles Scott Jr. (Huguenot, VA) also threw this morning. He is a big boy, standing about 6-foot-5 and weighing around 235 pounds. While he still looks a little raw when it comes to some of the finer details, there is a lot to like about his game. Florida State, SMU and Virginia Tech are some of the offers he already has.
– 2027 four-star WR Iveon Lewis, a teammate of Scott Jr.’s, was also on hand. Lewis was by far the best receiver we watched on Sunday. Standing 6-foot-2, he has a lot of length and a lot of twitchiness. He is a smooth route runner who gets into and out of his breaks quickly. Florida State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Penn State are just a few of the schools to have already offered.
– 2027 four-star WR Zerek Sidney (Desert Edge, Goodyear, AZ) worked out. Size-wise, he reminds you of Antonio Williams. Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas and Tennessee are some of his offers, and it is easy to see why he’s garnering so much interest.
– 2027 four-star OL Maxwell Hiller was on hand, and the Top 50 prospect has already announced an offer from the Tigers. 247 ranks him No. 34 overall and No. 1 among all interior linemen in the class.
– 2026 WR Alijah Simmons (Bishop Gorman, NV), who is the son of former Clemson standout Anthony Simmons, has been on hand all weekend. The elder Simmons told TCI that he believes his son is more athletic than he was at his age. Howard and Western Carolina have been showing interest and Simmons fully believes his son os on the verge of a breakout season as a senior.
– On a lighter note, at one point early in the practice, receivers coach Tyler Grisham made himself get down and do pushups after he had back-to-back throws to wideouts that were way off the mark. It was a lighthearted moment that many receivers in the group got a good laugh out of.
