The Clemson baseball program has suffered a big transfer portal departure.
Talented lefthander B.J. Bailey has entered the portal, The Clemson Insider confirmed.
There are some questions surrounding Bailey’s final year of eligibility, as he played his first two seasons at Spartanburg Methodist. If he does, in fact, end up having another season, it is very possible he is back with the Tigers next season.
In his third year at Clemson in 2025, Bailey recorded a 2-5 record with a 5.46 ERA across 61 innings pitched over 21 appearances (six starts). He allowed 65 hits and struck out 50 batters with 22 walks.
Bailey was primarily a matchup lefthander out of the bullpen in the 2023 season, then redshirted in 2024, when he suffered a leg injury and missed the season. This past season, Bailey was inserted into the weekend rotation in late March and provided some consistency for the Tigers. He got roughed up a couple of times, allowing seven runs against both Stanford and Duke, but those were two of just three times all year that he allowed more than three earned runs in an appearance.
Prior to joining the Tigers, Bailey played two seasons at Spartanburg Methodist College, where he was 5-3 with one save, a 3.43 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 76.0 innings pitched over 23 appearances (11 starts) in 2021 and 2022. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder was an all-region selection as a sophomore and junior at Woodruff High School.
