A former Clemson wide receiver has found a new home in pro football.
On Tuesday, the Canadian Football League (CFL)’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced they have signed Joseph Ngata to their practice roster.
Ngata, 24, was released by the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders on June 1 after signing with the team on May 1. Prior to that, the 6-foot-3, 217-pounder signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League on Jan. 22 before being released on March 20.
Ngata went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, then signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent that May. He was released by Philadelphia prior to the NFL’s roster cut deadline that August before being signed to the team’s practice squad shortly thereafter. After signing a reserve/future contract with the Eagles in January 2024, he was waived with an injury designation last August. He was then re-signed to the Eagles’ practice squad this past January, but was released a few days later.
At Clemson from 2019-22, Ngata recorded 88 career receptions for 1,287 yards and six touchdowns over 45 career games (25 starts).
