CLEMSON — The Clemson softball team finished ranked inside the top 10 in the final Softball America top 25 ranking.
The Tigers, who finished the season with a 48-14 record, finished ranked No. 9 in the final ranking. Clemson finished as the highest ranked ACC team in the poll, as Florida State finished No. 10 in the ranking.
In all, the ACC had five teams ranked in the final ranking. After Clemson and Florida State finished in the top 10, Stanford came in at No. 19 and Virginia Tech finished No. 20. Duke is ranked No. 24.
Clemson had a lot of first this season. The Tigers won their first ACC Tournament Championship and won their first Super Regional game, which came at eventual National Champion Texas in Game 1.
The Tigers, of course, advanced to the Austin (Texas) Super Regional by sweeping through the Clemson Regional. They won seven straight postseason games before losing to the Longhorns in Game 2 of the Super Regional, which went 10 innings.
In the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 2, Clemson had the winning run 60 feet away with no outs. However, they could not get the runner across and Texas ultimately won the game with two runs in the top of the 10th and then went on to win Game 3 by a run to advance to the College World Series, which they won.
With Texas finishing No. 1 and winning the national championship, it meant the Tigers beat two teams ranked No. 1 in the country. They beat Tennessee when it was ranked No. 1 in the rankings, which was the program’s first ever win over a top-ranked team.
Clemson finished the season 9-7 against teams ranked in the final top 25 rankings.
