CLEMSON — So far, Clemson has offered just one wide receiver in the 2027 class.
After his workout last Tuesday at Dabo Swinney’s high school camp, four-star wideout Myles McAfee (Archbishop Spalding, Severn, MD) is hoping he is on the receiving end of one of the next ones to go out.
The 6-foot-1 pass catcher attended the very first day of camp last week, working out at both the morning and afternoon sessions. McAfee believes he turned in a pretty solid showing, particularly during the second session.
“They really like me,” McAfee told The Clemson Insider. “They really like my routes, how I get in and out of my routes. They also told me some stuff I can improve on. Like getting my feet quicker. But they really like me at the release point and making contested catches. During the last practice, in the one-on-ones, I was making a lot of contested catches.”
As for one of those hard-to-get Clemson offers, wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham intimated to McAfee he was certainly a candidate.
“Coach Grisham wanted to see all the other receivers that came to camp,” McAfee said. “He did tell me I was really close, so hopefully I get the offer.”
“It would mean a lot because I know they barely give offers out. Coach Grisham said he is only going to hand out two or three offers in this class for a while. So to be among the two or three offers from Clemson, that would be a blessing.”
As a sophomore, McAfee reeled in 54 catches for 651 yards, with 10 touchdown catches. All three of those were team-highs, as the blue-chip wideout helped lead his team to a perfect 12-0 record and a MIAA A Conference championship in the state of Maryland.
McAfee also sees himself as a really good fit in Garrett Riley’s offense at Clemson, comparing himself to one of the talented underclassmen currently on the Tigers’ roster.
“I can see myself playing anywhere, but I can see myself as a true Z,” McAfee said. “Like TJ (Moore) and (Bryant) Wesco, they kind of play both. But I know my skill set, and it’s more on the TJ side, because Wesco is very, very fast. So I put my skill set more on the TJ side.”
247 ranks McAfee No. 36 overall, No. 5 among all receivers in the 2027 class and No. 3 in his state. He also received high praise during recent showing at an Under Armor Next camp.
Penn State and Ohio Stare are among his many offers, and he said he is also hearing a lot from Oregon these days. However, McAfee is still looking to add that offer from Clemson, seeing as he believes the culture inside the program matches what he’s looking for in a school.
“A big thing is to develop as a man in general,” McAfee said. “Then the offense, the quarterback that is coming in, who is throwing me the ball. But developing as a player, I would say, is the main thing.”
