CLEMSON — A Clemson football player has been dismissed from the team, the Clemson Football Program announced on Thursday.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney dismissed freshman athlete Marquise Henderson from the program. He is the first Clemson player Swinney has dismissed from the team since former linebacker TJ Dudley in 2023. Dudley ultimately transferred to Ole Miss after his time at Clemson.
“Clemson has made the decision to dismiss Marquise Henderson from its program. We wish him the best as he moves forward,” a Clemson spokesperson said in a release.
Henderson is expected to enter the transfer portal in the near future once he completes the requirements needed from an NCAA compliance standpoint. Clemson did not explain why Henderson was dismissed from the team.
The Belton, S.C., native did not compete much in the spring. Swinney said on March 12 Henderson was battling a hamstring injury. He also did not play in the spring game on April 5.
“(Practiced) like two days. Maybe? I do not know if he even got two full days in,” Swinney said after the spring game. “So, we do not know much about him… It is unfortunate. We really do not know much about him.”
Henderson never officially played at Clemson, as he signed with the Tigers in 2024 as an athlete. He enrolled in school in January of 2025. Henderson’s eligibility for the 2024 season is up in the air since the portal windows (December and April) for this coming season have already closed.
The record-setting running back at nearby Belton-Honea Path (S.C.) High School, led his team to the 2024 State Class AAAA Semifinals in the state of South Carolina. He finished his high school career just shy of 8,000 all-purpose yards over 47 games.
Henderson, who also returned kicks, averaged 11 yards per rush on 577 career carries for a school-record 6,369 yards. He was listed as a four-star recruit coming out of high school.
