Mother of Current Commit Says Clemson ‘Best Thing for Him’

When Kentavion Anderson committed to Clemson, it was the end of what, at times, was an exhausting process.

Anderson’s mother, Zanita Chambers, watched on proudly as her son navigated that process while always remaining humble.

“I think he handled it good. I don’t see a difference in him,” Chambers told The Clemson Insider after her son’s commitment. “He was able to multitask grades and all with football season and traveling every week to go to these schools.”

“He’s one of them people, like he’s not arrogant. When you have players who are arrogant or think they’re better than the next one, then you become nothing. So I instilled in him to reach for the stars and do what you got to do.”

Anderson, a four-star in-state safety (Dorman), committed to the Tigers during a ceremony in Spartanburg last month, but he’d known he was going to choose Clemson since his visit for the Elite Retreat in March.

Living so close by, Anderson has long been an avid fan of the Tigers, which always made Dabo Swinney’s program a sentimental favorite in his recruitment. However, the way Clemson recruited both him and his mother is what put the Tigers over the top.

“He has always been a fan of Clemson football,” Chambers said. “Also, just their contact with myself and him. Not together. It was together sometimes, but then separate too. That makes a difference because he is becoming an adult.”

Chambers is also happy her son will be playing so close to home. Anderson has been playing football since he was six years old, and she has never missed a game. She doesn’t plan to start now either, so you can expect to see his mom at both the home games and every away game, as well.

“I love it, I love the atmosphere,” Chambers said. “Just the vibes with the players and the fans. I feel like it’s the best thing for him.”
