Jayden Aparicio-Bailey has had a busy few weeks.
The four-star cornerback made several recruiting stops, including one in Clemson to work out at a session of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp. Aparicio-Bailey was accompanied by his mom, stepdad and sister.
Aparicio-Bailey really started taking an interest in Clemson when the movie Safety was released. The film, released in 2020, is based on the story of Ray Ray McElrathbey, who battled family adversity to join the Tigers’ football program.
“Me and my family loved it, we just loved it,” Aparicio-Bailey told The Clemson Insider. “I mean, I have been a fan of Clemson since the movie Safety. The atmosphere, the people and the culture inside of Clemson were really amazing.”
Originally, Aparicio-Bailey was planning to just visit and not work out, but once he got on campus, the competitive juices started flowing.
“Originally, I wasn’t going to (work out), we were planning to just watch,” he said. “But I figured I might as well just do the camp. Coach Reed said I didn’t have to, but we were there, and I wasn’t going to duck away. And Clemson had never seen me in person, so I figured I might as well let them see what I was made of.”
Aparicio-Bailey got some one-on-one time with corners coach Mike Reed before and after the session. Then, to cap it off, he was taken into Dabo Swinney’s office, where the head coach officially dispensed an offer.
“We had a feeling the offer might be coming,” Aparicio-Bailey said. “I was happy. I was so excited. Knowing that Clemson doesn’t just give out offers to that many people made it more special.”
The recruiting services list Aparicio-Bailey as a safety, but the Tigers are recruiting him as a corner. Rivals ranks the 6-foot-2 defensive back No. 92 overall, and he now holds right at 20 offers in total.
Among those offers, Aparicio-Bailey said Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU and Georgia are some of the schools currently recruiting him the hardest. When comparing Clemson to some of those other schools, there are some things that make the Tigers stand out.
“Not only the development as a player, but the development as a man,” Aparicio-Bailey said. .”The PAW Journey program really stood out. Just knowing how I would leave as a man and my family knowing I would be safe at Clemson.”
Reed’s track record of putting players into the NFL also resonates.
“Knowing the guys he has produced and developed and put in the NFL, that really stands out.”
Aparicio-Bailey hasn’t really settled on any timeline for making a decision. However, he hopes to have one by the start of his senior season next year. Culture, development, coaching stability, and the quality of the education are some of the main things he is looking for in a college destination.
And now that he officially has the offer, the blue-chip talent not only knows when he will be back at Clemson, he also feels really strong about the Tigers.
“They stack up pretty well, they are definitely strong in my recruitment,” Aparicio-Bailey said. “I am definitely looking forward to continuing the process with them.”
“We are coming back for Clemson vs LSU. That is a big game. Death Valley vs Death Valley, Tigers on Tigers.”
