Incoming Freshman Shines at MLB Combine

An incoming freshman for the Clemson baseball team has turned in quite a showing at the MLB Draft Combine.

Dax Kilby, one of the top high school shortstop prospects in the country, has undoubtedly improved his draft stock. Kilby has jumped 17 spots up to No. 62 overall in the updated MLB.com rankings, meaning his chances of ever suiting up for the Tigers are now a little slimmer than they already were.

The left-handed hitting Kilby turned in the fourth-fastest 30-yard dash time, clocking an impressive 3.55. His 6.47-second 60-yard dash was also the fourth-fastest. He also recorded an 84 MPH infield arm velocity and turned in a 1.60 time in the 10-yard split.

Joe Doyle, one of the scouts on hand at the Combine, called Kilby a “big winner,” noting he turned in “several impressive rounds” of batting practice.

Kliby is one of two incoming freshmen participating in the event. Pitcher Nick Frusco, who was unranked heading into the Combine, is now No. 249 in the updated rankings.

Transfer commit Ryan Wideman is also taking part. The Clemson legacy jumped nine spots to No. 146 in the updated rankings.
